Academic Flexibility
Susquehanna is small enough to be flexible, yet large enough to offer more than 50 major emphases, 48 minors and 850 courses. Most students graduate in four years. An accelerated degree option allows highly-motivated students in most majors to complete a bachelor's degree in three years. Double majors allow you to pursue in-depth studies in two fields, such as finance and a Spanish or sociology and religion. Employers find dual backgrounds relevant in today's global economy. Self-designed majors offer another option. Recent examples at Susquehanna include human resource communications, biopsychology and sports administration. Faculty advisors help you build a program that will be challenging, practical and marketable. Minors can complement your major or concentrate on a totally different interest. A minor in legal or international studies, for example, would enhance a major in political science. Independent study is a chance to work closely with a faculty expert on a subject of your choice. Recently, one Susquehanna student chose to explore Latino culture in the United States. Other examples include photography in biology, and diversity sensitivity. Study abroad equips students for the increasingly multicultural world of the future. It can change your ways of thinking, broaden your horizons and increase your self-confidence. By the time they are juniors, approximately 30 percent of Susquehanna students have studied abroad. Programs range in length from semester or full-year experiences to summer or semester break travel/study. Cooperative programs link a Susquehanna education with opportunities at large research universities, Temple University School of Dental Medicine for dentistry, Duke University in environmental management and Thomas Jefferson University in the allied health professions. |
