The Honors Program
The Susquehanna Honors program provides a diverse and challenging intellectual community for academically talented students looking for opportunities to expand their classroom and social horizons. Cited by the National Collegiate Honors Council as a model for selective colleges, the program offers educational benefits, as well as academic and social advantages. Members of the Susquehanna Honors Program invited students and faculty from honors programs at other colleges across the country to a recent weekend-long "sleeping bag seminar" titled Ghost Town Burning: Scientific, Social, and Legal Issues Surrounding the Mine Fire in Centralia, Pa. What students say about the program: "My peers continually force me to think, to re-evaluate my ideas, and basically, to be on my toes at all times." "The environment is open and accepting of your opinions and ideas." "It has opened many doors...additional contact with faculty, extra-curricular activities, and a wonderful interdisciplinary education."
The highly individualized academic program features:
About 10 percent of our student body are Honors Program members. They are as likely to be athletes and student leaders as musicians or future scientists. They welcome the opportunity to interact both in and outside the classroom with other honors students and faculty who:
