Internship/Externship Opportunities: FindingEmployers and graduate schools are looking for the same things: the skills that will get the job done and the proof that you can handle the work. Work experiences, including internships, externships, and practica, provide that proof and will give you the competitive edge for your fiuture plans. Finding an InternshipInternship coordinators in most departments, the University's Sigmund Weis School of Business and the Center for Career Services can assist in locating opportunities. Some students find internships on their own, often through networking with families, friends and community contacts. Internships in Washington, D.C. are available through two programs at Susquehanna: The Lutheran Consortium Internship Program and the American University Internship Program. Each offers valuable options for students to gain skills while also experiencing life in our nation's capitol. These programs are offered both during the summer and throughout the academic year with placements at government, business or non-profit sites. Internships are available in a wide variety of fields. Students can choose full-term internships during the summer or academic year or short-term, one-to-two week externships, often during semester break. While many are unpaid, some pay very well. Student Learning Contracts spell out goals and evaluation procedures for students, faculty, internship coordinators and job-site supervisors. |
