Why Susquehanna?

Campus Life: Religious Life

Weber Chapel

Susquehanna is affiliated with the Lutheran Church (ELCA) and welcomes students of all religious backgrounds as well as those with no religious affiliation. Like the ELCA, the University is open and ecumenical, and seeks to develop an understanding of our ethical and spiritual responsibilities. Students can attend chapel on campus or choose off-campus services at local Protestant churches, St. Pius X, or Temple Beth-El in nearby Sunbury.

The Chapel Council coordinates the activities of 12 different religious life groups:

  • Acts 29
  • Catholic Campus Ministry
  • Chancel Drama
  • Chapel Choir
  • First-Year Mentors
  • Gospel Choir
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Handbell Choir
  • Hillel Student Organization
  • InterVarsity Christian Fellowship
  • Lutheran Student Movement
  • Tuesday Night Watch

The chaplain's office sponsors alternative winter and spring break service-learning/mission trips to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Appalachia each year.

Worship is held in Weber Chapel every Sunday morning during the academic year. The University chaplain conducts a wide variety of programs of learning, service, and spiritual growth, and is available for consultation and counseling. A number of students, faculty, and staff also participate in the churches, temples, and other communities of faith in the area.
