Stieffel is responsible for implementing a successful, competitive national and international recruitment plan, developing a comprehensive financial aid and scholarship strategy, and coordinating Susquehanna's retention initiative. She is a member of the Senior Leadership Team, serves as chair of the Administrative Systems Leadership Team, and is a member of the Executive Staff Committee, the Admissions Committee, the Student Success Network, the Web Core Team, the Communications Strategy Group and other ad hoc committees.

Stieffel is a current member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), as well as the Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling (PACAC). She has done consulting work for a variety of colleges and served as a faculty member and director from 2003–07 for NACAC's Management Experience in College Admission (MECA), which provides training for new deans and directors of admission and enrollment management. She currently serves as co-director of the NACAC Chief Enrollment Officers’ Forum.

Stieffel also served as an executive board member and president-elect of the National Catholic College Admission Association from 2002–07 and on the Southern Association for College Admission Counseling (SACAC) executive board as chair of the legislative committee.
