Applying to Susquehanna

How to Apply: Transfer Students

The University welcomes applications from prospective transfer students for entrance to either semester. July 1 is the application deadline for transfer admission to the fall semester; December 1 is the deadline for the spring semester. All applicants are expected to be in good academic and social standing at their previous college or university.

Admission is selective. The quality of your most recent academic work, your grade point average, selection of courses in both high school and college, personal essay, letters of recommendation, and extracurricular interests are all considered as the Admissions Committee selects individuals who will benefit from and contribute to the University community. Transfer applicants are expected to be in good academic and social standing at their previous college or university.

A personal interview is strongly recommended (though not required for admission) because it provides a forum in which your questions can be addressed directly by a member of the admissions staff. It also assists us in more accurately understanding your goals and personal qualities.

To be considered for transfer admission, applicants submit the following:

  • the transfer application and a $35 non-refundable processing fee (the application processing fee is waived if the completed application is brought to campus during a visit or if the student submits an application online.) Susquehanna accepts both the Common Application and the Universal Application
    • You can access the Common Application by visiting www.commonapp.org.  You can also download a hard copy of the Common Application here.
    • You can access the Universal Application by visiting www.universalcollegeapp.com. You can also download a hard copy of the Universal Application here.
  • Official transcripts of all previous college work
  • Get Adobe Acrobat ReaderThe College Official's Form, completed by the dean of students at the previous college or university, if you are currently enrolled in a degree program
  • High school transcripts* and standardized test scores (the SAT or ACT)

(Music degree candidates are required to audition. Writing majors must submit a portfolio.)

*students do not have to complete the Secondary School Report form and Teacher Recommendation form

Susquehanna encourages transfers with an associate degree from accredited community and junior colleges. Such candidates should have taken a course of study in the liberal arts that is compatible with Susquehanna's curriculum. The registrar, in conjunction with the appropriate academic department, makes the final decision on the amount of credit granted. In most cases associate degree holders who meet the conditions above are able to complete the undergraduate program in two years of study.

Susquehanna University has a formal dual admission agreement with Harrisburg Area Community College.

The Admissions Committee will release decisions after all credentials are on file. The Candidate's Reply Date for successful applicants is stated in the letter of admission.

Transfers become eligible for financial assistance immediately. Further information is available in the Costs and Financial Aid section of the University Catalog or by calling the Office of Financial Aid at 570-372-4450.

Residency requirements for transfers are outlined in the Academic Regulations section of the University Catalog.

Mid-Year Admission

Susquehanna encourages applications for admission to the spring semester. Accelerated students, mid-year high school graduates, transfer students and others holding a high school diploma are eligible. Candidates follow the procedures previously outlined. Applications should be received by December 1 at the latest.
