Philanthropy

Alpha Delta Pi has been involved with the Ronald McDonald House since 1979 and since then has contributed over $5 million to this worthy cause. The Ronald McDonald House is located in 52 countries and provides support for families who need a home away from home while their children are sick. There are over 300 Ronald McDonald Houses and the Gamma Omicron chapter is lucky enough to have one right in Danville. The sisters of Gamma Omicron visit the house weekly and cook dinner for the families that are residing in the house at that time. They also create a variety of projects for the house to brighten it up a bit, such as bracelets for the children, door decorations, or banners.

Every semester the Sisters of the Gamma Omicron Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi raise money and volunteer for the Ronald McDonald House in Danville, PA. Last Fall they held an event entitled "Beauty and the Greek." Sister Alexis Heppler, the philanthropy chair, created the event after she herself spent some time in the Ronald McDonald House as a child.

"The Ronald McDonald House holds a very special place in my heart. When I was younger I stayed in the Ronald McDonald House. The comfort that the house offered after long days at the hospital is  truly unforgettable. As soon as I stepped in the ADPI house on philanthropy night, I knew I wanted  to be apart of the sisterhood, helping the Ronald McDonald House on a weekly basis. That night, I knew that someday I wanted to be the Philanthropy chair, to be granted the opportunity to create an event for years to come that would raise money for the Ronald McDonald House.

A fun event for the entire campus and the greek community. Beauty and the Greek was the event I created for our Philanthropy fundraiser. It took place in Fall 2011. Beauty and the Greek is a competition between 5 greek couples performing in 4 different events for the winning trophy: Best Cross-Dressed, Talent, Movie Skit and Formal wear. All the money from the the tickets, bake sale and other donations went to the Ronald McDonald House. It was a fun and entertaining night, and a great way to bring the greek community together for a great cause. Our President of our University, President Lemons was even there to open up the first ever Beauty and the Greek event. I am very excited for next Fall and following years to come."
