Dear Friends,
The year has flown by. It brought many changes to Susquehanna, including the departure of an exceptional president, Joel Cunningham, and his equally exceptional wife, Trudy. While we were saddened by their decision to accept other challenges, we remain deeply grateful to them for 21 years of outstanding service to this university. An exciting new chapter will begin in Susquehanna's history next semester when we welcome as our 14th president L. Jay Lemons, who has served as chancellor of the University of Virginia's College at Wise for the past eight years. U.Va.-Wise is a selective, public liberal arts college with about 1,500 students and 225 faculty and staff located in southwestern Virginia. Susquehanna's board of directors elected Dr. Lemons president in a special meeting held October 1, following an intensive search which drew more than 100 candidates from across the country. Jay Lemons' experience leading U.Va.-Wise through nearly a decade of remarkable achievement and growth, his love for students, and belief in the value of community make him an excellent choice for our next president. He and his wife, Marsha, look forward to opportunities to greet alumni, parents and other friends of the University next semester. It is a great privilege to thank our students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends, board members and volunteers for the crucial role each plays in the life of this university. You are part of something special and valuable; you are Susquehanna.
