October 1996
Dear Friends,
This fall, as we welcome the Class of 2000, Susquehanna’s enrollment is at an all-time high. There is much for which we feel pride and gratitude, including outstanding accomplishments by faculty and students, enhancements in information technology, generous support from donors, and a stunningly beautiful campus. This report provides a most welcome opportunity to give you an update on developments during the last year and to report on two key aspects of the University’s educational program, the core curriculum and collaborative learning.
The mission of Susquehanna University, as set by the Board of Directors, is to educate capable undergraduate students for productive and reflective lives of achievement, leadership, and service in a diverse and rapidly changing world. The University’s broad-based general education curriculum, which encompasses approximately one-third of each student’s course work at Susquehanna, is a key factor in our efforts to fulfill this mission. Likewise, the special opportunities for collaborative study and research here are critically valuable learning experiences for many Susquehanna students. I hope you will enjoy the reports on these two distinctive features of Susquehanna today.
To all of you -- alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, board members, and friends -- who have contributed to Susquehanna’s success this year, heartfelt thanks for all the progress your support is making possible here.
Sincerely,
Joel Cunningham President JC/jfb
