Susquehanna University's most recent year has been and unusually successful one. Enrollment this fall is at an all-time high of 1,584 full-time students. The faculty continues to provide excellent, innovative teaching, and the academic credentials and acheivements of Susquehanna students are also increasing. Contributions to the University have risen again; the market value of the endowment grew substantially during the year; and a major new capital campaign, Susquehanna 2000: The Next Challenge, was launched publicly in April.
This report provides updates on many recent developments, an overview of new approaches to teaching and learning , and an account of the important educational role of athletics and fitness programs at Susquehanna.
A major regret this year is that Susquehanna's remarkable leader and fan, Dr. Gustave Weber, is no longer able to share his customary pride in the year's accomplishments. President Emeritus Weber was energetically active on camous until shortly before his death in July 1997. We were fortunate to have his usual warm, enthusiastic presence during Alumni Weekend in June. We will miss him deeply and will honor the memory of all he led Susquehanna to achieve.
On behalf of all who benefit from Susquehanna today, it is my privilege to say thank you to the many alumni, friends, faculty, staff, students, and volunteer leaders who have contributed to the vitality and success of the University this year. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Joel Cunningham
President
