Susquehanna University's Official Monthly APAN E-Newsletter * December 2002
HAPPY HOLIDAYS from the entire Susquehanna
Family!
As autumn draws to a close (despite the early signs of winter) and with the
holiday season upon us, I want to take a moment to reflect on the current state
of APAN and I would like to thank everyone for their help with the success of
the program. I must admit that back in May when I took over the reins of the
Alumni-Parent Admissions Network, I was not sure what to expect. There were
definitely some bumps in the beginning, as can be expected whenever any program
undergoes a major transformation. Right now the Alumni-Parent Admissions Network
is at a state that very few people thought it could reach in such a short period
of time. THIS IS ALL THANKS TO YOU, OUR AWESOME VOLUNTEERS!
APAN’s active membership roster is currently at 500 members who represent
over 25 states. Over 200 people have already expressed an interest in becoming
active APAN members next year. In addition, we hope to include some graduates
from the Class of 2003 among our ranks. The fall college fair program was a
tremendous success. We had the highest number of inquiries ever generated from
contact with an APAN member (an increase of over 400%). Members covered over
150 college fairs this fall, including fairs in Florida, California and Wisconsin
and this is just the beginning of our goal to further expand coverage. We are
looking forward to a great spring college fair season; we are tweaking the program
to make it even more successful based on your evaluations and comments.
Applications for Fall 2003 are coming in at a record pace. We have already received
over 1100 freshman applications, well on our way to our goal of 2600. Acceptances
have been mailed out to students who applied under the Early Action Legacy Plan.
Early Decision letters will begin to be mailed this week. I am confident that
with the help of APAN member participation in the Adopt-A-Student program that
we will achieve our goal of 510 first year students arriving on campus in August.
What is ahead for the APAN program? We are now starting our Adopt-A-Student
program and will shortly begin planning Accepted Student Receptions and spring
college fair coverage. We are also hoping to implement our APAN Web site and
the Adopt-A-School and APAN Interview programs in the not so distant future.
Keep an eye out for more information.
In closing, I want to give a special thank you to Sean Capkin ’06 and
Pam Aungst. In his first semester at SU, Sean has shown true dedication to the
APAN program. He has worked tirelessly helping coordinate the college night
program and finishing a Pipeline by the deadline each month. Pam, as always,
is the rock of APAN. She is always ready to send out materials, answer questions
from APAN members and manage the Admissions Office. We would not be where we
are today if not for the hard work of Sean and Pam!
Best wishes to all of you
and your families for a great holiday season and a happy New Year! 2002 has
been a terrific year for APAN and I am confident that 2003 will be an even greater
success!
