A Word From Sean

It is almost hard to believe that we are now in the midst of October! The leaves are already changing, and it is only a matter of days until jack-o-lanterns and trick-or-treaters will be lining the streets. It is truly an exciting time of year! Campus is charged with that excitement as well, as students participate in a number of annual October events. This year SU’s homecoming weekend will be held from October 4th to 6th.

This was my first chance to participate in the homecoming festivities and let me begin by saying what a fun time it was for all! This was also my first real chance to interact with alumni face-to-face, and while I watched large groups of alumni return to the University and walk about the campus, it became clear to me what a deep love and appreciation so many have for SU.

Sunday night, after the weekend was finished, I was sitting at my desk doing work for APAN and for the first time I truly realized what a wonderful program APAN is. First of all, it demonstrates that strong love and bond you have with the school, ties so strong that you sacrifice your free time and energy in order to give back to SU. At the same time, think of what an impression it must make on prospective students to have such enthusiastic representatives of the University! Many schools only utilize admissions counselors, and while they promote their schools to the best of their abilities, they do not have that true passion and understanding of what it is like to be a student there, an understanding that only alumni or SU parents such as yourselves can provide! I applaud you and thank you for all of your efforts!

The Top Ten Things SU Looks for in Applicants

The following is a list of a few of the more important factors that the Office of Admissions takes into account when looking at candidates for admission:

SU Outstanding Performer(s) of the Month

Senior Carly Kellet, daughter of APAN members Denise and Bruce Kellet, and Junior Tara McHugh are this month's Outstanding Performer(s). The two led the women's tennis team to a 10-2 record, the second best record in the program's history! McHugh finished the regular season a perfect 12-0, breaking the Crusader regular season record for wins. Kellet finished a stellar 8-1! Both women will participate in the MAC Championships on October 18th and 19th at Lebanon Valley College.

Campus Hot Spot

This Month’s Hot Spot is I.T. Express, a perennial SU favorite, whose pizza was recently named by a local publication as the “Best in Selinsgrove.” Besides excellent pizza, many students praise the subs, mini-calzones, and delicious, made-fresh-daily bread! I.T. has affordable prices and also delivers. Due to their close location at the corner of Market Street and University Avenue, I.T. Express provides a convenient and delicious late-night snack.

We are currently looking into purchasing new table banners or cloths for APAN members to use at college fairs. Thank you to everyone for their feedback about how to make the tables look more professional. Until the new banners are available, you might consider bringing with you an orange or maroon tablecloth to complement the paper banner currently used.
