A Word From the Director
Greetings from the Office of Admissions! I hope that you and yours are enjoying the first days of autumn.
Members of the admissions staff are now on the road, searching for the talented
students who will join us as members of the SU Class of 2007, but it will be
difficult to top the Class of 2006....
Our 504 new freshmen were selected from the largest applicant pool in Susquehanna's history. In order to enroll a freshman class of about 500 students, and to enhance the academic profile of the class, the number of freshmen targeted for admission was reduced dramatically. Our current freshman acceptance rate is under 63%, nearly 14 percentage points below each of the last two years.
Our greater selectivity was a gamble, but it paid off. We were able to enroll the class, and achieve a freshman academic profile that is the strongest in our history. The percentage of enrolled students who rank in the top two/fifths of their high school class reached 90 percent, compared to 86 percent each of the last two years. The average SAT stands at an all-time high of 1162, an 18 point jump over last year. A record number of campus visits and Early Decision applications set the tone for a very strong year. Of course, positive things happen for good reasons.
Once again, one of the real contributions to building this class was the work accomplished by APAN members like you. Your efforts in helping us identify strong prospects have been invaluable. Your coverage of college nights and fairs in your area has been extremely helpful in broadening our reach to attract strong candidates to Susquehanna University. For these efforts and for many others, thank you!
We've got a lot of work to do this year, but together we can continue to bring in another excellent class of Crusaders!
I look forward to working with you this year. All the best, Chris

Introductions: A Letter from APAN's New Assistantship Student
Hello! My name is Sean Capkin, Class of
2006,
It is my pleasure to introduce myself as APAN's assistantship student! I am
nineteen years old and from Lower Merion, Pennsylvania, located in the suburbs
of Philadelphia. I am an elementary education major with a minor in Spanish,
and participate in a number of activities here at SU, including Indoor and Outdoor
track, the Big Brother/Big Sister program, and the Participate in the Lives
of America's Youth program.
These past few weeks have been a whirlwind of new faces, new places, and new
opportunities, yet I have already come to find, much as you probably did at
one point, a love for the people and campus that make SU what it is today! Additionally,
I am very excited to be a part of APAN and to work with all of you, who make
the program what it is, over the next four years! While I have a number of different
responsibilities within APAN, I hope to bring fresh ideas to the program in
the hope of making it an even more powerful tool for the University to utilize
in the admissions process!
I have already spoken with many of you, and I look forward to getting to know
and work with all of you in the coming months!
