2012 MLK/Winter Convocation Guest Speaker

Barbara Love, Ph.D.Barbara J. Love, Ph.D., delivered a lecture as part of Susquehanna University’s 2012 Winter Convocation, celebrating the legacy of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Love is professor emeriti of social justice education at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. She consults with colleges and universities throughout the U.S., Europe, the Caribbean and Africa and with a variety of other organizations on issues of diversity and inclusion. She has worked closely with schools and school systems throughout the U.S.

Love currently heads the Black Liberation and Community Development Project of the International Re-evaluation Counseling Communities.

Love's recent research and publications examine processes of personal and organizational transformation. Her focus is on:

  • Assisting individual empowerment and transformation
  • Facilitating organizations to understand and manage diversity
  • Theorizing, understanding and dismantling oppression and internalized oppression

She has co-authored a variety of publications including chapters in Teaching for Diversity and Social Justice, including “Knowing Ourselves as Instructors,” “Racism,” and “Ageism and Adultism.”
