2013 MLK/Winter Convocation Guest Speakers
James L. Stowe
James L. Stowe currently serves as the Executive Director of the Montgomery County Maryland Office of Human Rights.
Stowe has increased involvement and developed a curriculum for the Human Rights Diversity Camp for 5th grade students in Montgomery County. The camp gives students opportunities to understand human rights terms, concepts, and experiences and to develop as teams in a multicultural context. In addition, Stowe has coordinated the Civil Rights Educational Freedom Tour and has lead efforts to bring attention to the issue of human trafficking.
Stowe developed and coordinated a city-wide Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday celebration, which included a commemorative march, banner contest, celebration program, working with with Capital University, the Dr. Martin Luther King Center, and the Dr. Martin Luther King Breakfast Committee. In addition, Stowe has provided consultation and advice to the Dr. Martin Luther King Center for Nonviolence and Social Change on numerous projects.
The Rev. C.T. Vivian
The Rev. C.T. Vivian is best known for his work with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr as a leader in the civil rights movement. Vivian is featured in PBS's acclaimed documentary "Eyes on the Prize."
Vivian is the founder of BASIC Diversity Inc., a full-service diversity concultancy, and created the C.T. Vivian Leadership Institute Inc., which equips a new generation of grassroots leaders to mobilize a constituency.
