Susquehanna University Phycological and Limnological Research

Phycological and Limnological research at Susquehanna University primarily involves the Biology Department with some research done by the Department of Environmental Science and Earth. Aquatic research in the Biology Department occurs under the tutelage and watchful eye of Dr. Jack Holt (Ph.D. University of Oklahoma). Senior and some junior students make up the research team that studies the lakes and streams surrounding the university. Below are links to the primary study sites of our research, followed by research students who have worked here in the last two years.

Faylor Lake an acid-sensitive oligotrophic impoundment.

Pardee Lake a meso-eutrophic, hardwater, artificial oxbow of Penns Creek.

Walker Lake a eutrophic, hardwater recreational impoundment.

Mitigated Wetland a eutrophic, highly variable PennDOT mitigated openwater wetland.

Penns Creek a fourth order hardwater stream which is a tributary to the Susquehanna River.
