Kids’ College Summer Camp

Kids College Summer CampThrough a series of high-interest, complex topics, the 2008 Susquehanna Kids’ College Summer Camp is designed to challenge campers and develop creativity, critical thinking, and cooperative learning skills in a safe and educational environment. The Summer Camp will be open to all students who have just completed grades two, three, four, or five and will be offered from July 14 – 18. Students will have the option to participate in the morning camp experience from 8:30 until 12:45 pm. An afternoon session will also be available for those who would like to stay for lunch and participate in one of our afternoon special interest topics. All sessions will be held on Susquehanna’s campus and will be limited to 16 students per grade level session.

Morning Kids’ Camp:

Puzzles, Problems, and Predicaments!
Kathryn Irwin Lentz, Instructor

This exciting task-based session will offer unusual problems and predicaments for campers to puzzle over. Using the creative problem solving process, they will experience a wide variety of instant challenges and sharpen their skills in engineering, design and the creative manipulation of materials. Come prepared to design, build, modify and rearrange materials and engage in lively conversation as you work together to solve your team’s problem!

Time Travel: Back to the Days of Knights and Damsels
Wendy Hummel, Instructor

Say good-bye to the 21st century as you travel back to medieval times and the exciting days of knights and damsels. Activities will take you from castle construction to catapult competitions with many rich, hands on opportunities to experience day-to-day life during this period of history. Bring your imagination for a fun-filled adventure in time!

Survival!
Lori Smith, Instructor

As a tour ship passenger you find yourself shipwrecked on a desert island and soon discover that you are not alone! The island is also inhabited by a group of castaways who, with the exception of a two-way radio that barely works, have lost contact with civilization. Together you try to find a way off the island but when the radio is suddenly misplaced, everyone starts to wonder! This light-hearted mystery is a spoof on reality TV shows and provides an opportunity for scientific fun as well as creative thinking and team building!
