How the Internet Can Help
In today's electronic world, use of the Internet
can be an invaluable tool. It's fast and easy, but it's not
the only way to conduct a job search. When searching for
employment, use
the Internet in addition to other sources such as: professional
and personal contacts, newspaper and magazine classified
advertisements, academic and professional journals, hard copy
association directories, career fairs, broadcast letters,
possibly employment agencies and the Center for Career Services.
The odds of getting an interview from sending out 100 resumes
and cover letters is less than 1%. The odds of being offered an
interview after putting your resume into an online database is
.001% (according to The Five O'Clock Club).
In other words, don't put all of your eggs in one
basket. The more comprehensive your search, the better your
results. Don't rely on the Internet alone.
