Club Activities and Info

Hillel

Hillel’s Rosh Hashanah dinner held on September 12th was a big hit and we gained a lot of interest from prospective members.

This year Hillel hopes to provide more opportunities to get others involved in the organization. They are in the process of finding speakers and/or entertainers to educate the campus regarding the different aspects of Judaism, and will continue to celebrate the various holidays such as Hanukkah, Passover, and Purim throughout the year. Any SU student interested in learning more about the Jewish religion and culture is welcome to join Hillel. Their meetings are held every Sunday at 8:00 pm in SDR 1. You can also contact Hillel President Shira Zimmerman

Acts 29

Acts 29, a volunteer performing arts group, started off the semester helping out the Church of the Nazarene in Selinsgrove with their day long music festival, Fusion Fest. At the kids portion of the festival, Acts 29 members showed off their painting skills by working the face painting table. We were also excited to perform in the University Chapel Service on September 23 and are sponsored several group members to participate in CROP Walk on September 30. Acts 29 has also planned services for October with churches in Landisburg and Mifflinville.

Lutheran Student Movement

LSM promotes the active participation of students in the life and mission of the Lutheran Church. Our group also seeks to more clearly understand the roles of our faith in this changing world, to bring peace and the love of Christ to all. LSM meets every Monday night at 10 p.m. in Horn Meditation Chapel. Meetings alternate between worship and other activities. Last semester, LSM held a retreat at Camp Kirchenwald and participated in Lutheran Youth Day, an event for middle to high school-aged youth held at Susquehanna University.

This semester, the group is beginning a long term-service project of conducting Lock-in events for youth groups at churches within a 2 hour radius. We also participated in the Crop Walk and played a late night campus-wide game of capture the flag. If you have any questions about LSM, please contact Amy Troxell, LSM President.

Habitat for Humanity

The Susquehanna University chapter of Habitat for Humanity is looking forward to another exciting and eventful year. The organization has increased in membership and is looking forward to working with its many new first-year members.

Currently the chapter has volunteers who will be assisting in the blood drive being held at Susquehanna University on Wednesday, September 19th. Members of the chapter are also participating in the Crop Walk to be held on Sunday, September 30th which is to raise money for food in underprivileged countries.

SU Habitat for Humanity will also be working at the Union/Snyder County Habitat for Humanity tent at the Selinsgrove Street Fair to be held on Saturday, September 22nd. Students will volunteer throughout the day and assist in the selling of hot dogs and soda and making origami houses for donation in addition to giving out information on Habitat. The chapter will also be participating in any upcoming builds in the local area and look forward to helping local families build their homes.
