Two New Religious Life Groups Debut
Student Advocacy Team
SU students Alina Gayeuski and Caitlin Newman received a grant this fall to start a Student Advocacy Team at SU. The team will focus on showing people how to help those in need by changing the system rather than remedying the effects of a faulty system. Advocacy attempts to speak up for those without a voice, and SU’s Advocacy Team will focus on the following goals:
Helping struggling people without writing a check
Speaking out against injustice
Learning about the ONE Campaign and the Millennium Development Goals
Working for public policies that advance justice, peace, human dignity, and care for the earth.
An informational meeting will be held November 12th at 4:15 in Meeting Room 3 for anyone who is interested in participating.
E-mail Caitlin Newman if you are interested in finding out more.
Quaker Meeting
Beginning Sunday evening, September 16, regular weekly worship services of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) will be held at Susquehanna University.
The meeting will consist of 45 minutes of sitting in silent prayer, contemplation, or meditation, listening for the voice of God (however the individual
participant conceives God). Brief messages may be shared with the group as participants feel led to do so. Since Quakerism is an open tradition based on
direct experience rather than creed or dogma, all are welcome regardless of personal religious conviction or absence of it.
Date:
Sunday, September 16 and every Sunday thereafter until the end of the semester
