"Children's Letters to God" a Success
This years's chancel drama, Children's Letters to God, was a huge success. We heard nothing but praise from our audience members, and the show proved once again to be a tremendous community builder. Our cast was comprised of students from all different backgrounds. We had theater majors, music majors, education majors, biology majors, math majors, and business majors. Some of our students were well-expereinced on stage, and others were making their debut performance. Each and every cast member contributed greatly to the overall success of the show, no matter what role they held.
The musical, based on the book with the same title, uses actual questions to God written by children. Sometimes the most powerful thoughts come from the most "uneducated minds." So many times, as adults, we overlook the insight that children have. All of the questions posed come directly from real children. Some may sound ridiculous to our college-filled minds, but how many times do we ever stop to think about the importance of the simplest most obvious things? Children are question seekers. They want to know everything! Nothing is too outlandish or too silly to ask, and everything is of the utmost seriousness and importance. As adults, we worry about so many things that children don't even consider, but i think this show is an excellent reminder that things happen for a reason... just believe. The children have lots of questions for God, and we learn that only by asking questions do we realize that we never had to, having faith is enough.
