Assessment
The Center for Teaching and Learning encourages and supports classroom assessment strategies that allow faculty members to continually improve their teaching. The Center has hosted workshops on course design, assessment and peer feedback in the past, and the written materials from these workshops can be found through the links in the left menu bar. Asmall collection of books on assessment is also housed in the Center. Finally the we will be sponsoring a series of round table workshops entitled 'How Am I Teaching?' this fall. These workshops will help faculty learn how to critically evaluate each other's teaching for feedback, rather than evaluative purposes.
Formative Assessment
Formative assessment occurs during a unit, course or program. Thus, its goal is generally to provide rapid feedback that will allow modifications and improvements while the course or learning activities are ongoing. Online resources to support formative assessment can be found in the left navigation window.
Summative Assessment
Summative assessment occurs at the end of a unit, course or program, and is used to check final student comprehension or performance. The IDEA surveys that we use are an example of summative assessment. Links to the IDEA Center and other resources for summative assessment can be accessed via the left hand navigation menu. |
