ADVANCED WORKSHOPS: CLASSROOM FACILITATION AND WRITING ACTIVITIES
These workshops are intended for those who have previous experience in implementing POGIL in their classrooms. Those with a firm understanding of the POGIL pedagogy, who have attended one or more prior workshops, and who seek an intense opportunity to deepen their ability to author activities or improve facilitation, should consider attending. Participants will learn about the structure and design of POGIL classroom activities, and will have opportunities to improve existing activities that they have written, or construct new ones, including individualized consultation. The workshop will also include activities designed to enhance the facilitation skills of participants.

ADVANCED POGIL WORKSHOP: IMPROVING PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS WITH IN-CONTEXT POGIL ACTIVITIES
The NSF-supported POGIL-IC project (Process-Oriented Guided-Inquiry Learning - In Context) is producing POGIL activities that are designed to improve proficiency in problem solving by using real world contexts. In this workshop, a brief introduction to POGIL is provided, and a research-based model for the problem-solving process is presented. Participants experience a POGIL-IC activity that follows this model and is structured to improve problem-solving skills. The design of the activity is analyzed, and participants write and practice facilitating activities that they can use in their classrooms. While the focus of the project is on General Chemistry, instructors in any subdiscipline as well as AP high school courses should find this workshop valuable.
