MINOR IN ENGLISH
Students minoring in English must complete at least 20 semester hours
beyond EN 100 and EN 200, with grades of C- or better. Courses must be
chosen in consultation with a departmental advisor to compose an integrated
program of study. Students may choose from a variety of emphases, such
as English, American, or comparative literature; literary genres; or language
study. Proposed programs are reviewed and approved by the department and
endorsed by the head of the department.
MINOR IN WRITING
The English & Creative Writing Dept. offers a writing minor which allows students
to choose introductory courses in fiction, poetry, non-fiction, playwriting,
and journalism as well as to select advanced workshop courses in fiction,
poetry, and non-fiction. Students can also pursue independent writing projects
for academic credit and gain professional work experience through credit-earning
internships.
Students minoring in writing must complete 18-20 semester hours beyond
EN 100, including EN 380: Advanced Writing Workshop. The remaining courses
are to be chosen from the following list, in consultation with and with
the approval of the department minor advisor: EN 280: Writing Workshop,
380: Advanced Writing Workshop (required), 540: Internship, 580, and CO
131: Introduction to Journalism. Any course applying to a major or minor
program must be completed with the grade of C - or better.
TUTORIAL SERVICES
The University Tutorial Services, located on the ground floor of the
Blough-Weis Library, includes a Writing Center staffed by 8 to 10 qualified
students each semester. The Director of Tutorial Services, and the Writing
Center Coordinator, Barbara Feldmann, also regularly teaches courses in
the English & Creative Writing Dept..
