             I am usually in my office 8:30 to 5:00 except for
             lunch and my other classes (8:45-9:00 MWF and 3:00-4:05 MWF).

             I will use email to communicate with the class outside
             of meeting times, e.g. for homework corrections, hints,
             etc.  So check your email regularly.  When emailing me,
             be sure to use a good subject line.  Blank subjects, and
             generic subjects like "question" and "help" are liable
             to get eaten by our spam filter.  Use a subject like
             "Operations Research homework question".

      Text: Introduction to Operations Research, 9th edition, by Hillier
            and Lieberman.

      Grading:
                   Homework:      100 points
                   2 hour exams:  200 points
                   Final exam:    150 points  (Wed. Dec. 12, 8-10 a.m.)


      Course goals:
        Learn various techniques of mathematical modeling and finding 
        optimal solutions to problems.  Linear programming (including
        duality, shadow prices, and sensitivity analysis), integer
        programming, dynamic programming, network flow, PERT/CPM, 
        game theory, queuing theory, reliability.   We will use the
        software packages LINDO and LINGO to solve computer models.

      Class attendance policy: Be there.  The Student Handbook states
        that one week's equivalence of absences is grounds for an F.
        I will note absences, and anybody that has what I regard as
        excessive absences will have their grade lowered as I see fit.


      Cheating and plagiarism: Don't.  Studying together to understand
        the material is fine, but the work you hand in is to be your
        own.  See the Student Handbook for the dire consequences of
        cheating or plagiarism.
