Dance Newsletter

We would like to acquaint you with a dance opportunity in Freeburg, PA, about 5 miles from the SU campus. We opened a dance hall where we have had dances that are open to the public since January 18, 2006. We dance on a weekly basis, mostly alternating Saturdays and Sundays, sometimes Fridays (from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.; see the accompanying dance schedule). We would appreciate donations to share the maintenance costs with us.
We usually enjoy potluck snacking every week, so if you’d like to bring some snack/dish along, that would be great. If you don’t, we still want you!
We ask that you wear inside shoes and take the floor into account. We’ll repeat our request for newcomers - to prevent the laminate floor from having scratches, cracks, etc., shoes should be soft-soled (except for black rubber heels that make marks). They should not have any nails or other metal additions on the soles. If you don’t have appropriate shoes, socks or house shoes will be good.
Ballroom classes (Foxtrot, Waltz, Merengue, Salsa, Cha-Cha, Mambo, Rumba, Swing, Tango, Paso Doble, Polka, Hustle, Quickstep, Disco/Nightclub, and more) is being offered for those interested (the instruction takes place before regular dancing, on the same days, so that you don’t have to make two separate trips). We could also meet on a separate night for instruction if that’s what you prefer. Please let us know if you would like to participate in this course. We will offer such courses continuously, so you can join any time you want. See the accompanying dance calendar for the names of the dances taught every week. Contact us ( tanets2@hotmail.com ) for more details.
During our regular dancing, we will do mostly line and circle dances that do not require previous training and particular abilities (with a brief walk-through before we start a dance). We also program in the ballroom dances that were taught before.
Come one; come all! No experience necessary; no partner required. Enjoy a wonderful physical exercise, aesthetic experience and beautiful music, and make new friendships. There’s no such an excuse as “I’ve never danced before”. As an African saying goes, if you can walk, you can dance! If you know of someone who may be interested in joining our group, please forward this message to him/her or bring them along. The more, the merrier!
Please contact us with your questions and suggestions any time.
Hope to see you in Freeburg soon!
