T-Title

• 1. Does not convey concept of investigation.
• 2. Too short.
• 3. Too long.
• 4. Does not include species name

A-Abstract

• 1. Does not completely summarize investigation (remember to give some data).
• 2. Too short.
• 3. Too long.
• 4. Wrong tense-use past third person.

I- Introduction.

• 1. Does not include references.
• 2. Too short.
• 3. Too long.
• 4. Irrelevant information.
• 5. Does not introduce hypothesis and experiments.

M-Materials and methods.

• 1. Not enough detail to allow repeat of experiments.
• 2. Not written in third person/past tense.
• 3. Inappropriate level of excessive detail.

R-Results.

• 1. Table legends not on top.
• 2. Figure legends not underneath.
• 3. Legends in general do not give enough detail. Do not start legends "Figure showing xxxxxxxxx." This is not accepted format. Look here for a guide.
• 4. Text does not describe important results.
• 5. Text includes some discussion (it should not!)

D-Discussion

• 1. Does not include references- it should.
• 2. Too short/not enough detail.
• 3. Too long.
• 4. Irrelevant information.
• 5. Discussion doesn't discuss context of experiments.

R-References

• 1. Not enough
• 2. Too many
• 3. Not relevant
• 4. References not referred to in text.
• 5. Wrong format. Follow format given in Journal of Insect Physiology.

F-Format

• 1. Poor English
• 2. Sloppy presentation
• 3. Sections do not gel together
• 4. Typos
• 5. Figures and tables should be used to aid understanding.
