Spring 2008

March 26 to April 2

Home Page of Dr. David S. Richard

Be prepared for your appointment. Have your schedules planned before you arrive if at all possible.

Instructions

Choose three day/time slots that suit you and email them to me richard@susqu.edu. Check this web page the day after you send me the email to see which time slot has been assigned to you. Time slots will be assigned on a first-come-first-served basis. Turn up on time and please be prepared. Read the directions below!

This year, even though we will be doing online registration for the Fall semester only, you should still plan your courses for the spring. Download the WebSU student instructions here if you need them. Once you log into your page, you can plan your schedule and fill in the courses you want to take online. Then when we meet, I can remove the Registration Hold so you can complete the process.

Freshmen: If you are continuing as a Biology major, you need to sign up for BI 201 (Genetics) in the fall, and plan for BI 202 (Systematics Biology) in the spring. If you have already done College Chem 1 and 2 this year you should sign up Organic Chem 1 (fall) and Organic Chem 2 (spring). If not, then sign up for College Chem 1 and 2 for next year. You should complete Career planning this year. Please contact your student advisor for more information.

Non-Honors program. You should have completed Writing and Thinking by the end of your sophomore year. Sign up if you have not already done these. Otherwise, I suggest that you complete your schedule with some university core courses, history, society and the individual, values, fine arts, literature etc. If you have not exempted language and or the math requirement, this may be a good time to take care of those. I would not recommend putting calculus in the spring semester along with Systematic Biology and Organic Chemistry.

Honors program freshman should sign up for Genetics, Systematics Biology and Organic Chem I and II as above. You should also sign up for Thought and the Social Sciences or Thought and the Natural Sciences and for Sophomore Essay. Other core courses can be taken to fulfill University Core requirements

Sophomores: Check over the instructions for freshmen above and see that you are up to date. You should start to look for Bio electives with labs and complete your core requirements. By now, I am sure you will have a good idea of the sort of courses that you want to take. You should also take Physics 1 and 2 this year. Note that Cell Biology and Molecular Biology are pre-requisites to many other courses. This is also a good time to be thinking about taking courses for programs such as the Healthcare Studies Minor. If you are planning to study abroad, next year might be the best time.

Juniors: More electives, senior research and anything you haven't taken yet such as physics. Don't worry about whose lab you want to work in just now- we'll sort that out later. Right now, just sign up for a section of student research. It doesn't matter which section. Don't forget that there is an option to take 4 hours of topics courses in place of an upper level lecture lab combo.

Seniors: Feel free to come by if there are problems, or simply to say Hi! Let's face it...there is only about two months till graduation :-)
