How Do I Get a Job?


Fall Term


The process of getting a job is outlined below based on your employment status. Our Job Search Suggestions will help you with this process.

I Am an incoming student WITH Federal Work-Study.

1) Fill out and return the Work-Study Preference Form mailed to you in the summer.

2) Check campus mail for your Job Referral Notice, which you will receive on about your fourth day on campus.

3) Arrange an interview with supervisor.

If you are hired:

  • Your supervisor must hire you by completing the online Student Hiring Form. Electronic timesheets will then be created in the WebSU Time Entry System.

If you are not hired:

  • Check with the Office of Financial Aid for other opportunities.
  • Be proactive! If you have a particular area of interest, check with other campus employers.
  • Check the Campus Bulletin Board under Employment Opportunities in the Classified Section for current job postings.

I am an incoming student WITHOUT Federal Work-Study (a "Cash" student) or a continuing student (FWS or "Cash") WITHOUT a prearranged position.

1) Once on campus, check campus mail for your Employment Eligibility Postcard.

2) Use your campus networks, such as friends, faculty, the Office of Financial Aid or your RA, to learn where there are job openings – or you can call or visit the department(s) where you would like to work.

3) Arrange an interview with the position’s supervisor.

If you are hired:

  • Your supervisor must submit a completed an online Student Hiring Form. Electronic timesheets will then be created in the WebSU Time Entry System.

If you are not hired:

  • Check with the Office of Financial Aid (and your own network) for other opportunities.
  • Be proactive! If you have a particular area of interest, check with other campus employers.
  • Check the Campus Bulletin Board under Employment Opportunities in the Classified Section for current job postings.

I am a continuing student (FWS or "Cash") WITH a prearranged position.

1) Once on campus, check campus mail for your Employment Eligibility Postcard.

2) Once hired, your supervisor must complete the online Student Hiring Form. A job will then be created in the WebSU Time Entry System.

If you need assistance in finding the person/department to which you should report, please refer to the Campus Employer listing. The Office of Financial Aid is also available if you need additional help contacting a supervisor.


Spring Term


Continuing in the Same Job?

There is nothing you need to do beyond arranging your work schedule for the new term with your supervisor.

Found a New Job or a First Job on Your Own?

Your supervisor must complete an online Student Hiring Form. Electronic timesheets will then be created in the WebSU Time Entry System.

You cannot submit hours worked nor can you be paid unless the Student Hiring form is completed!

Working for a Relative

Student workers may NOT be supervised by a parent or other immediate family member employed by Susquehanna University.

Need More Money? Looking for a New Job or a First Job?

At any time during the year, students who need additional hours should contact the Office of Financial Aid. You will complete a Job Inquiry Card, available in the Office of Financial Aid, which we will use to help you find employment. Because the Job Inquiry Card requests your current schedule, your employment request remains "active" for one (1) semester only.
