More History of the Mine Fire
1984 - Voluntary acquisition of impacted houses begins.
1991 - By this time 545 residences and buildings had been relocated.
1993 - Condemnation procedures began against remaining properties. Route 61 is closed permanently.
Present - $53 million has been spent on the fire, 36 residences remain, and the fire continues to spread.
