Allegheny Ridge |
The School of thought for the Allegheny Ridge area is a technological determinist school of thought. The area was built up around the railroad, canals and harvest of natural resources. To accomplish all of this, technology needed to be used to gather resources but also move them out of the area. For this reason, this area focuses on the technological determinist school of thought. |

Shortcomings of the Web site |
· Smaller groups/incorporations looking for funds to preserve the past · Funds desired by small private groups that request funds from higher government · Higher government agrees with needs for funds, projects get money for restoration · End result… · PA gets its own “state steam locomotive” · Signed by Gov. Casey in March 1988
This example shows how the government is involved in the affairs of small towns and heritage areas
· The Web site gave very little information about the Allegheny Ridge · There were very few links to outside resources and the main focus of the Web site and the whole heritage area seems to be trains · The Allegheny Ridge wants you to purchase a book about their area if you want to learn what there is to do there · Without trains and the technological determinist school of thought, the Allegheny Ridge area is nothing. |
