Being a Heritage Corridor

There are both positives and negatives to being declared a Heritage Corridor in Pennsylvania.

Positives include increased tourism, the creation of museums and other educational aspects, protection of historical sites and traditions and economic renewal for the area.

Negatives include stereotyping of an area and a people, as well as new growth taking away from the fundamental nature of the area.

For example, while having this heritage area distinction may increase tourism and improve the economic state of the area, the increase in tourists will create the need for more restaurants, hotels and other amenities which may take away from the authenticity of the area.

In the end, it’s a balance between the two extremes that creates a successful heritage corridor.
