First Locomotive run in the United States, the Stourbridge Lion.  In 1847, the Lackawanna Iron and Coal Company successfully developed the very first large production iron T-Rails

           -William and Maurice Wurt

Wurt brothers traveled from Philadelphia to northern Pennsylvania when they heard about the unique properties of anthracite.  Their accomplishments include founding the town of Carbondale, transporting anthracite to New York and Philadelphia, and helped form the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company. 

           -George and Seldon Scranton

Created Lackawanna Iron & Coal, which is one of the greatest

success stories in all of American manufacturing.  Persevered

and expanded their little ironworks dramatically. They began

rolling railroad rails, T-rails, the first site in America to do so on a large scale.
