Our Evaluation:

The National Road Heritage Area gives off a very organized and ‘classy’ feel. The Web site does a great job communicating their message and sells itself to all audiences. It is clearly a technological determinist method, however it also contains consensus methods in some of the messages it sends. Finally, the main theme of travel is found everywhere on the site, emphasizing why this is an important area to see.

The Web site...

Pros:

· Eye Appealing

· Organized

· Clear

· Great Guide for Tourists

Cons:

· Grant Information?

· No Plan

Technological Determinist...

The entire heritage area is based upon the progress of a road. It emphasizes the evolution of the area around this one road—and the ways in which it has effected the industries of other regions. It also highlights the figures who shaped this country that traveled this road.

*Though this project is built around progress—it also tries to establish an American aspect to the area. Through the progress, it has helped shape Pennsylvania into the keystone of America.

Travel...

Contrary to Route 6—the National Road has more to offer than tourist traps. Yes, the heritage area has based itself on travel, but has also been able to show how important this road was to travel in the early years of this county. They want Pennsylvanians to experience the history of this great state on one great road in South-West Pennsylvania.
