The Susquehanna University Latino Oral History Project
Sponsored by the Department of Modern Langauges, the Latino Oral History Project
is an evolving initiative that links the University to the regional Latino community
while serving as a vehicle of expression for university students of Hispanic origin.

Phase I: Reconstructing the Past / Reaching for the Future
Latino high school students from the region were trained in oral history techniques to interview their family members and friends. At a summer institute on the campus of Susquehanna University they shaped the information they had gathered into the homepage that can be accessed from the above link.

Phase II: Nuestra Herencia
Inspired by Reconstructing the Past / Reaching for the Future, Susquehanna Students of Hispanic heritage enrolled in a special course that enabled them to construct their own individual family oral histories. Portions of the work they have accomplished to date can be accessed above.

Phase III: Nuestra Communidad
Susquehanna Students have joined with Latino community leaders from the area to continue collecting community-based oral histories. This work is carried out according to OHA guidelines, and materials are being archived in the Blough Weis Library on the campus of Susquehanna University. Nuestra Communidad will also be published on this website.

Publication in Spanish and in English helps strengthen the link between the Anglos and Latinos who have created the website as well as those who will read it.
