
The Hon. Alan K. Simpson
Thr Hon. Alan K. Simpson (R) represented the State of Wyoming in the United States Senate for eighteen years, from January of 1979 until January of 1997.
Senator Simpson served as Party Whip for the Republican Party for ten years, and as Chair of the Veterans Affairs Committee from 1980 to 1984 (and ranking minority member in the years in which the Republicans were not in control). The Senator and was an active member of the Judiciary, Finance, and Environment and Public Works Committees, as well as the Special Committee on Aging. He was author of many vital pieces of legislation during time in the Senate including the Immigration Control and Reform Act of 1986 and the nation’s first legislation to provide for the permanent disposal of nuclear waste.
Since leaving Congress, Senator Simpson has served as Director of the Institute of Politics at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government (2000-2002) and as a visiting lecturer at his alma mater, the University of Wyoming. He is a partner in the Cody firm of Burg, Simpson, Eldredge, Hersh & Jardine, P.C., and serves as a consultant to the Washington, D.C. government relations firm, The Tongour, Simpson, Holsclaw Group.
