Gunning has administered library services at Susquehanna since 1994. During this period, the library staff’s thoughtful implementation of new technology has transformed the methods of providing effective and efficient library service. While embracing innovations that provide access to more resources than ever before, the staff continues to cultivate a friendly and caring atmosphere and to provide a place where students can enjoy study and collaboration. In the midst of ongoing change, the core mission of connecting faculty and students to high-quality information as seamlessly as possible remains the same.

Gunning has more than three decades of academic library management experience. She began her career at Brown University, where work as a student assistant and a special program for prospective librarians led her to pursue a graduate degree in library science. After serving in several positions at Brown that provided experience in interlibrary loans, circulation services and reference, she was promoted to head of reference services. Several years later, she was selected by the Washington-based Council on Library Resources for a year-long management internship with the director of libraries at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. After the internship she became head of reference and information services at the University of Houston and was subsequently promoted to assistant director for public services, administering all faculty and student services in the main library and branches for 12 years before coming to Susquehanna.

Gunning is a member of the American Library Association and the Association of College and Research Libraries. She serves on the Governing Board of the Associated College Libraries of Central Pennsylvania, and on the Directors’ Council of the Susquehanna Library Cooperative.
