The Sigmund Weis School of Business (SWSB) London Program
highlights the global perspective of our business program like none other.
Students have the opportunity to enroll in a full semester of rigorous academic
coursework while being immersed in the experience of living in and attending
classes in London. This international exposure is enhanced by field trips to
multi-national companies and cultural activities in London and other countries
on the continent. In the past, students have visited companies in a variety of
industries in countries such as Scotland, The Czech Republic, Italy, Germany,
and France, among others. The companies and countries vary by semester, but all
visits introduce students to an international perspective of business problems,
cultural considerations, and global collaboration needed in today's business
world.
Historically,
over one-half of all juniors have participated in the London Program. Students
who have participated have shared as many wonderful individual experiences of
discovery as they have marveled over the shared experiences. Many of them
enhance their growth by exploring other parts of the European continent outside
the scheduled learning activities of the Program. Our objective is for students
to learn to appreciate the similarities and differences of others, to understand
the impact of international considerations on business decisions, and to develop
the ability to be comfortable with others and for others to be comfortable with
them, no matter where in the world that might be.
While London is very safe as big cities go, living there carries a small degree
of risk from crime and terrorist activity. London police have been dealing with
terrorists since the IRA disruptions of the 1970s and are very skilled at
responding swiftly to maintain the public's safety. The SWSB and the agencies
with which we work in London also consider the safety of our students to be of
the highest priority. Safety protocols and other precautions are part of the
student orientation process both before and upon arrival in London.
We have attempted to anticipate and answer most of the questions you might have
about the London Program. We encourage you to explore the possibilities of the
benefits of this opportunity and we hope you are able to join us in this
exciting and beneficial learning experience.
