For Potential Recruits:

Susquehanna University and the men's rugby club is actively recruiting student athletes and rugby players who will thrive at a selective liberal arts college and achieve excellence both in the classroom and on rugby pitch.  Susquehanna men's rugby is a Division 3 club, yet we practice 5 days a week and work out in the off-season just like a varsity club.  Men's rugby at Susquehanna underwent a re-birth in the fall of 2010 as we recruited 18 new student athletes to the club with only two of those players having previous rugby experience. In addition, as part of Susquehanna's unique Global Opportunities (GO) program we had 6 players studying abroad in the Fall of 2010 at the University of Limerick and SU semester in London where each of them played rugby.  In the Spring of 2011, the club was undefeated (5-0) having beaten clubs such as Lock Haven University, Bucknell University, Penn State-Berks, and York College, a division 2 team.

We are fortunate here at Susquehanna to have our own on campus full size dedicated game and practice pitch that is meticulously maintained by the athletic facilities management staff (the director of facilities is a former rugby player).  In addition we have access to varsity practice facilities such as Sassafras turf field, Nicholas A. Lopardo Stadium and James W. Garrett Sports Complex fieldhouse for matches or practices in poor weather conditions. We also have a certified athletic trainer available at all matches.

If you are interested in a college with small classes where your professor knows your name the second day of class then Susquehanna will be a great fit for you. Our small classes and a student-faculty ratio of about 13 to 1 offer students personal attention and challenging opportunities. Student participation and team learning are encouraged, as is faculty-student research and collaboration that exposes students to current, practical applications in their field of study.  More than 90 percent of our students receive institutional grants to offset financial need which makes the student centered Susquehanna University education comparable in cost to an education at a large state school.

Our alumni are currently in the process of funding a scholarship that will support undergraduate rugby players here at Susquehanna University.

If you are interested in joining SURFC, or have any questions about the program please contact Dr. Jonathan Niles (niles@susqu.edu).
