Dr. Jonathan Niles, Ph.D., Director of the R. K. Mellon Freshwater Research Initiative, assumed coaching duties in the fall of 2010 when he joined the biology faculty as a visiting assistant professor. Dr. Niles was previously the head coach of the West Virginia University men’s rugby club from 2005-2010, and brings 15 years of coaching and 18 years playing experience to Susquehanna University. He led West Virginia University to 4 USA Rugby Midwest region playoffs, including a Midwest region final four appearance in 2008. He graduated from St. Mary’s College of Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts in biology in 2000. He graduated with a Master’s of Science in Wildlife and Fisheries from West Virginia University in 2004 and then completed his PhD in Forest Resource Science from West Virginia in 2010.

Assistant Head Coach
Grant Walter assumed assistant coaching duties in spring 2011. Mr. Walter has played rugby for Harrisburg men’s rugby club since 2003, having been the leading scorer from 2005-2011. Mr. Walter primarily works with the backline. He graduated in 2002 from Lebanon Valley College and played on the LVC soccer team.
