Go Red for the Heart:
March 28th @ 6:30 in Ben Apple

Heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women in the United States. Come learn the facts about heart disease on Tuesday, March 28. A lecture will be presented by Dr. Kimberly Skelding, a specialist of cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at Geisinger Medical Center of Danville. The lecture will take place in Ben Apple Lecture Hall in Bogar, starting at 6:30 pm. Question/answer session and food reception to follow lecture.

Kimberly A. Skelding, MD, is an associate in cardiology at Geisinger Medical Center and a researcher at Geisinger’s Center for Health Research and Rural Advocacy.

A board-certified interventional cardiologist, Dr. Skelding earned her medical degree from Northwestern University School of Medicine, Chicago, and completed her residency at Geisinger Medical Center. She completed a clinical cardiology fellowship at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak Michigan and a Master’s Program in Clinical Research as well as Interventional Cardiology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Interventional cardiology is a minimally invasive approach to opening blocked heart arteries.

At Geisinger, Dr. Skelding divides her time between interventional cardiology and research at the Center for Health Research and Rural Advocacy. Her research interests focus on improving outcomes in cardiovascular disease as well as developing novel markers of cardiovascular disease based on genomic findings.

Dr. Skelding is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association as well as several other professional societies actively interested in the areas of heart disease. She is widely published on the treatment of cardiovascular disease. As the organizer of a women and heart disease task force at Geisinger, Dr. Skelding serves on several committees concerned with the quality of heart care and the use of electronic healthcare information technology.
