Susquehanna Celebrates Homecoming/Alumni Weekend
October 5, 2007
SELINSGROVE, (Pa.) – Homecoming and alumni reunions at Susquehanna University will attract more than 1,000 visitors to the central Susquehanna Valley this weekend. Alumni will begin arriving on campus Friday afternoon with events ramping up that evening.
Saturday morning, alumni, students and staff will be out and about in the community enjoying events connected to the 2007-08 University Theme, “Water.” Some will be canoeing the Susquehanna River, while others will gather along Penns Creek for a hands-on science lesson from Biology Professor Jack Holt.
An annual Walk with Jen, memorializing Jennifer Tietgen '97, is scheduled Saturday to raise awareness about melanoma. Tietgen died in 2002.
The university will celebrate a host of alumni reunions and hold a kids carnival for alumni families. Events will continue through Saturday night, and wrap up Sunday with a liturgical tent meeting along the banks of the Susquehanna River and an alumni awards banquet.
Most of the weekend's events, including the Badlees concert at TRAX Saturday night, are events open exclusively to Susquehanna alumni, students and staff. The exceptions are a presentation by alumni experts on “The State of the Susquehanna River,” commencing at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Isaacs Auditorium of Seibert Hall. Sponsored by the Arlin M. Adams Center for Law and Society, the event is free and open to the public.
The public is also welcome to attend the Homecoming Parade, which begins at 2 p.m. on University Avenue, and the sporting events scheduled for Saturday. The first sporting event of the day will be Men's Soccer against the United States Merchant Marine Academy at 1 p.m. on Sassafras Fields. At 3 p.m., Susquehanna Field Hockey will compete against The College of New Jersey at the field complex.
Saturday night at 7 o'clock Crusaders Football will face the Hobart College Statesmen at Nicholas A. Lopardo Stadium. Halftime activities will include introduction of the 2007 Homecoming Court.
