October 24, 2007

SELINSGROVE, (Pa.) – The Martha Graham Dance Company & Ensemble will perform before a packed house Oct. 30 in Susquehanna University’s Degenstein Center Theater. The sold-out performance, featuring original choreography by legendary dancer and choreographer Martha Graham, is the first of three Artist Series events scheduled for the academic year.

An American genius, Graham (1894-1991) is considered the mother of modern dance and its greatest practitioner. Today, the Martha Graham Dance Co. features an international roster of dancers performing a stunning repertory that reconfirms its founder's genius. From her early all-female and small-group pieces, through her inspired classics with multiple characters and elements of narrative, her work drew on psychology Greek mythology and philosophy.

This tour engagement of Martha Graham Dance Company & Ensemble is funded through the American Masterpieces program of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts American Masterpieces: Three Centuries of Artistic Genius, a major initiative to acquaint Americans with the best of their cultural and artistic legacy.
