Orpheus Chamber Orchestra to Perform
Jan. 24, 2008
The Grammy Award-winning Orpheus Chamber Orchestra will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 29 in Susquehanna University's Weber Chapel Auditorium.
The orchestra will perform Mozart's Wind Serenade in C Minor and Violin Concerto No. 5 and Tchaikovsky's Waltz Scherzo and Serenade for Strings.
Founded in 1972 by cellist Julian Fifer and a group of fellow musicians, Orpheus is known for a unique style of collaborative leadership.
Unlike traditional orchestras, the score is not interpreted by a conductor but rather by the musicians.
For each musical work, members select the concertmaster and the principal players of each section. This core group forms the initial concept of the piece and shapes it for rehearsals. In the final rehearsal stage, all members participate in refining the interpretation and execution.
Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and $5 for non-SU students. Tickets may be purchased by calling the university box office at 570-372-ARTS (2787).
