Susquehanna University to Lead Community Discussion on Pine Meadow Apartments Tuesday Night
Published on October 1, 2010SELINSGROVE—Susquehanna University will host a meeting for the Selinsgrove community about the university’s consideration of a possible purchase of the Pine Meadow Apartments affordable housing development. The apartment complex shares two borders with the university campus. The meeting will be held Oct. 5, at 7 p.m., in the LGI Room of Selinsgrove Intermediate School, 301 N. Eighteenth St.
The university has been approached by the property’s owner about a possible purchase of the property, and has been researching affordable housing regulations, the impact of a sale on current tenants and possible options. The community meeting will be an opportunity for Selinsgrove residents to contribute to this fact-finding process.
“In considering this purchase, we have committed ourselves to investigating all aspects of a Pine Meadows sale, whether to us or someone else,” said L. Jay Lemons, president of Susquehanna University. “The property offers strategic value to the university because of its proximity, but there are many other factors to consider beyond real estate. We want to understand what this would mean for us, for Pine Meadows residents and the borough of Selinsgrove.
“In recent weeks, we have held individual discussions with a variety of stakeholders about this property, and we hope this meeting can bring together the viewpoints of all interested parties.”
Interested members of the Selinsgrove community are invited to attend.
