Former H&R Block CEO Delivers Sigmund Weis Lecture

Alan Bennett, former CEO of H&R Block, Inc., delivered the annual Sigmund Weis Lecture at Susquehanna University on Feb. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Faylor Hall, located in Fisher Hall. His talk was titled “A View from the Boardroom.”
Bennett currently works as a consultant to the president and CEO of H&R Block, Inc. In 2007, he served as interim CEO, and then returned as president and CEO in 2010, before retiring the following year. His leadership is credited with a restructuring of the business, a turnaround of the business’ financial position, and an increase in customers and market share. Prior to H&R Block, Bennett held executive positions at Aetna, Inc. and Pirelli Armstrong Tire Corporation. He began his career with Ernst & Whinney, now Ernst & Young.
In addition to being a member of the board of directors of Halliburton, the TJX Companies, Inc. and the Fluor Corporation, Bennett also serves on the Board of Trustees of Susquehanna University. He graduated from Susquehanna with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He is a founding member of Students in Free Enterprise, a nonprofit organization whose student teams perform economic-based community service projects and present their projects at competitions.
