Susquehanna University will be home to the fourth annual Figurative Drawing and Painting Competition in the Lore Degenstein Gallery Oct. 27 through Dec. 7. An opening reception, free to the public, will be held Oct. 27 from 7 to 9 p.m.
This national, juried visual art competition and exhibition is open to two-dimensional figurative artists over the age of 18 who are working in painting and drawing. This year’s juror, artist Amy Freeman, will select the exhibition works and announce the awards during her gallery talk at the opening reception. Freeman received a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from the University of Wyoming and a Master of Fine Arts degree from University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. Currently based in Memphis, she has taught art full time at both Savannah College of Art and Design and East Carolina University.
The Lore Degenstein Gallery exhibits, interprets, collects and preserves objects of art and material culture that support academic investigations and contribute to the cultural life of central Pennsylvania. While adhering to professional standards of museum ethics, the gallery preserves and displays art from both the university's permanent collection and loans from other institutions and private collections.
The Lore Degenstein Gallery is located in the Charles B. Degenstein Campus Center at Susquehanna. The gallery is open seven days a week from noon to 4 p.m. For more information, call 570-372-4059 or visit www.susqu.edu/art_gallery.
