Students Showcase Artistic Talent in Lore Degenstein Gallery

Published on March 7, 2013

Susquehanna University senior graphic design and studio art majors will showcase their work and manage their own exhibition in the university’s Lore Degenstein Gallery for the annual tradition known as The Senior Show. The Senior Show This year’s exhibition will run from March 16 through 31, with an opening reception March 16 at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend this free event.

Senior graphic design major Su Sandi Aung of Yangon, Myanmar, said the exhibition theme reflects the uncertainty students may feel upon graduation. Eight graphic design and four studio art majors will be represented in the show.

The Senior Show provides students with the opportunity to share their work with family and community members. Students organize all aspects of the event, including preparing and hanging the work, advertising the show and arranging for catering.

“They gain valuable experience working as part of a team and learning the ins and outs of putting together a professional-caliber gallery exhibition,” said Mark Fertig, associate professor of art and chair of the department.

Aung said this year’s show will feature not only a new theme, but also a new color palette, style, wall arrangement and setup of artwork from previous shows.

“Being in the show and having a chance to show our work is vital,” Aung said. “In our department, we are trained to use our creative minds and be conceptual at the same time. That is not easy. Hopefully through this exhibition, people can appreciate how we use our artistic talents to solve real-world design problems.”

The Lore Degenstein Gallery, located in the Charles B. Degenstein Campus Center, is open seven days a week from noon to 4 p.m. Call 570-372-4059 or email gallery@susqu.edu to make an appointment when classes are not in session, or visit the gallery website.
