Susquehanna Club Rugby Team Finishes Season Ranked Sixth in NSCRO Standings
Published on June 11, 2013
The Susquehanna men’s club rugby team finished its 2012-13 season ranked sixth in the final National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) rankings. The Crusaders ended their season with a 6-2 record.
Susquehanna was one of eight teams to qualify for the inaugural NSCRO National 7s Championship Tournament, held earlier this month. The team fell 26-12 to University of North Florida on June 1 but rebounded to defeat Western New England University 19-10 later that same day. The Crusaders were then eliminated from the tournament with a 33-10 loss to Occidental College in their third and final game of the day.
Occidental went on to defeat North Florida 28-15 in the championship game on June 2. Susquehanna’s Michael Tilley ’13 was named to the All-Tournament Team following the conclusion of the weekend’s games.
Susquehanna had advanced to the National 7s Championship Tournament with a win over PSU-Berks in the Philly 7s NSCRO Qualifying Tournament in April.
After the 2012 fall season, the team found itself ranked No. 19 in the NSCRO rankings after earning the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union (EPRU) semifinals and advancing to the championship game against Gettysburg. Combined with the team’s results during the 2013 spring season, this has marked the most successful campaign for the program since 1996.
