Houston Ballet to Take the Stage at Susquehanna

A stellar ensemble of artists from Houston Ballet II will grace the stage of Susquehanna’s Degenstein Center Theater on Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
The performance will be the second installment of the university’s 2013–14 Artist Series, which brings internationally acclaimed artists and programs to Susquehanna’s campus for the benefit of students, faculty, staff and members of surrounding communities.
Houston Ballet II is the second company of the Houston Ballet, the fourth largest ballet company in America. It is also part of the Houston Ballet Academy. Under the direction of artistic director Stanton Welch and academy director Shelly Power, Houston Ballet II travels the world presenting fresh choreography in a wide array of dance works, including stunning contemporary pieces by Welch and other leading choreographers.
Artists will perform excerpts from Welch’s neoclassical work “A Dance in the Garden of Mirth”; a modern piece titled “Calling” by Ma Cong, principal dancer and resident choreographer for Tulsa Ballet; and the classic masterpiece “The Sleeping Beauty.”
