Chamber Singers Perform Last Concert of the Season
Published on April 10, 2014
The Susquehanna University Chamber Singers will close its touring season with a concert at 8 p.m. April 25 in Stretansky Concert Hall of the Cunningham Center for Music and Art. The concert is free and open to the public.
Music selections will include English madrigals, French chansons, three contemporary pieces of Shakespearean text, and a selection of contemporary opera, as well as highly regarded works by living composers. Most of the selections were performed on tour, but some have been newly added for this final performance.
The Chamber Singers will be conducted by Julia Brasher Thorn, the Cyril Stretansky distinguished professor of choral music and director of choral activities at Susquehanna, and Associate Professor of Music Diane Liggett Scott. The ensemble is composed of select singers from the University Choir, Susquehanna’s largest choral group. They will be joined in this concert by the women of the University Chorale, directed by Assistant Professor of Music Jason Vodicka.
The choral program at Susquehanna University consists of six choirs. The ensembles provide students with unique musical experiences on and off campus. The choirs are open to all Susquehanna students regardless of major, and most select their singers by audition.
